Welcome back Noni—the pinto star of “Noni the Pony Goes to the Beach.” If kids enjoyed meeting Noni in her debut picture book, they’re sure to be engrossed with her escapades on the sand, and in the surf.
“Noni the Pony is friendly and funny and loves going down to the beach when it’s sunny.” So begins this rhyming charmer as Noni gazes dreamily off, her eyes fixed on an ocean scene, complete with a lighthouse.
Down the hill Noni and her pals cascade, a puppy with a matching coat by her side, and a kitty astride her back, anxious to explore all the sea has to offer. Seagulls swirl overhead and dolphins cavort in the waves, “dancing by—one, two, and three.”
Coco the cat doesn’t like the water so she catches a catnap in a hammock, but Noni’s bovine buddies splash, hoof-deep in the water. There are tide pools to check out, and sand boats to build. What’s an ocean outing without a bit of excitement—when poor Dave the pup ventures too far out to sea, it’s Noni to the rescue, what a trusty friend.
“Then the friends head for home, up the road from the bay, happy and tired from their wonderful day.”
With summertime in full swing, there couldn’t be a better time to introduce “Noni,” to young readers. But be prepared. It could spawn requests for a trip to the beach.
